So stoked I can’t quite put it in words. We did our first session today and it was way cool. Kind of turned out like a Link Wray kind of a sound. Like Godzilla rampaging tokyo kind of vibe to it. 3 chords you know the deal. We waited for a rainy cold day and today was it. I will post the sound clips from today when I get them and I might ramble more… but i got a doctor’s appointment right now so I am off to that. If you have a stage name for me I’d like to know about it: email: aichertime@sbcglobal.net Many Thanks to kevin and rawl for a great day… Rock and Roll and share you pudding!
Extended play! I am back from the doctors and it’s late at night now like midnight late and I am still so full of energy I can’t sleep. I thought you’d like to know the plan for this rock group. I hope we can make a 45 record with 4 to 6 songs (maybe 3 songs a side) or maybe an lp. It may have spoken word too. I do want it to include a full comic book as well, but it’s going to take time and that’s the fun part as we can pick up anytime from where we left off. We are liking the spontaneous stream of conscious style of making it up as we go. We jam for a bit then once the tune takes shape we press record (that seems to work fine) We may record to 4 track in the final process. Who knows we may even play a show someday, but for now we had a fun starting day. Small steps, slow and steady before you know it we’ll have an ep or lp… We’ll see…
I have talked over coffee some more about getting the Cupps going. It may be just me and Rawl at first, but I have been writing out some crazy Mike Webber style lyrics and who knows what’s in store, but it’s looking good so far. We plan on coffee again this week. Today is lunch with John Ransom who wants to do some musical stuff too. Like I said, “who knows where it’s going” but isn’t getting there the fun part? Guitar lessons were cancelled the last 2 weeks, and I got to get to practicing for their return. Rawl came around a few weeks ago, and he got this “Germs” skate deck I did as a series of 4 decks (it had Darby, Bukowski, James Brown, and Wendy O. Williams in the set) the others sold at my art show last year in El Segundo at Gasoline Gallery which is having it’s closing show there next Saturday Jan 7th, 2012 (yes I am in it too).
Turn on your heart lights and let them shine wherever you go, stay tuned!
I went back for guitar lessons starting this saturday until who knows how long. I went to the Gray School of Music here in Pedro (22nd and Leland next to Leland school) I took lessons there a few years ago. My teacher that time taught me music reading, but we did not do very much “jamming”. My new teacher Walter today showed me how to hold my pick right and new picking techniques. I want to be ready to jam with my pals this winter, so the lessons will help. I plan to eventually walk to my lessons to drop some weight too. It’s kind of a learn/win deal. Learning to crawl guitar wise too. The “bad for you” snack of the week went to retro “Taco flavor Doritos”(I got Tapatio flavor too, but have not opened them yet) they took me back to 1975 when my neighbor pal Matt Perkins and I had them with lunch and sometimes for dessert we took some of his grandmas “aids brand diet chocolates” (they were chocolate chews with sacchirne.) I also remember watch Joe Namath of the Jets Battle Bob Gresee of the Dolphins and Rodger Staubach of the Cowboys. Anyway it was a good day to learn. Maybe next week I will have more photos of my music school (I had to ask them permission before taking photos etc..) I will keep you posted. I may put up some of my song lyrics soon. The Pudding Cupps should be chillin’ by winter. I feel real blessed to be living this life and I am grateful for all the opportunities I have to just do what I want. Freedom is a nice thing to have.
We may make this design into shirts for the band soon. Even though we have not even jammed yet. Talked to Rawl Power today. He tried out my new bass. He and Paloma hung out for a bit this afternoon and brought me the triart shirts and posters. We talked a bit about the Cupps and he liked the new design. I re-did my other website into a home for the cupps here: totallybitchen.com More to follow very soon.
Why the winter? Because most of us have other things to do until then. Why now for a band? Why not. John Lydon does not seem so talented (smart yes, but really talented?) but he has led 2 great ones. I have wanted to do this since I was 13. The guys I have picked out for this are younger, but they are open minded, so why not? I want to do this to prove to myself that I can do it. To say I am worthy and good enough to make it happen. To overcome my shyness and low self esteem and prove I am brave enough to make it happen. Not to play in front of anyone, just to work it out with some friends is the small goal. I always wanted to be a success at art on my own and that’s happening now. I wanted to make my own comics and now I am on my second one. Time moves real fast when you are doing what you want and having fun. I dreamed of doing these things when I worked my day job for the last 20 or so years. Depression has been a big part of my life. friends an family have tried to help me with it but it wasn’t until I actually got to doing things for myself that I saw how great life is. How much fun each day can be. The best part is the real fun for me doesn’t really cost anything it just takes time and dedication to make it work. I know I am an artist not a musician, but I might be able to make this band work. Time is on my side, right Mick? – “Clams” Peedrow 9-17-2011
The Pudding Cupps is a rock band project created by Clams McGhee, Rawl Power and Kid Kevin.
We plan to get things rolling this winter. Wewere going to use my junior high (1980) band name “Sonic Doom” but to my amazement, someone actually used it. (It was originally “Silent Death” but the bass player’s mom didn’t want her son to be in a band called “Silent death” so “Silent Doom” took over). I don’t think there is another Pudding Cupps as of this post on Sept. 2nd, 2011 at 9:27 so it’s official for now. We plan on covering so obscure Bo Diddley tunes, maybe “Laugh at me” by Sonny Bono, tunes like that. I have written some songs, but I have not shown them to the guys yet. They may be to far out. We shall see.
